The Old Town of Segovia and its Aqueduct is a charming place to visit in Spain with its medieval feel while being in the middle of a thriving modern city. Surrounded by legends, such as being founded by Noah’s son or by Hercules, Segovia has an interesting tale to tell about its history.
A variety of cultures blended and lived peacefully in this city for much of its history, including Jews, Christians, and Moors. Set in a hilly area, there is much to explore and discover, including the ancient Roman aqueduct, the imposing Alcázar, and Segovia’s old Cathedral.

Roman aqueduct
The Roman aqueduct in Segovia has been around for 2,000 years and is easily noticeable in the old town. This aqueduct functioned to bring water from the nearby mountains into the city. It was restored in the 1990s so the aqueduct appears to be in great condition today, allowing present and future visitors to marvel at this ancient feat.
Alcázar
Alcázar is a must-see for Disney fans, as this castle is said to have inspired Walt Disney when he created the castle for Sleeping Beauty. It was originally built in Roman times but has gone through several reconstructions over the centuries. Inside, visitors can view a ceiling that has almost 400 stalactites that are shaped like pineapples.


Cathedral in Segovia
The current Cathedral in Segovia first started being built in 1525 and took close to 200 years to be finished. There are about 20 chapels to explore that have some great architecture. Visitors are able to join a tour to climb the stairs up to the top of the tower for a great view of the Old Town of Segovia.
Iglesia de Vera Cruz
The Iglesia de Vera Cruz is a church made up of 12 sides. It was built back in the 13th century and was used by the famous Knights Templar, who performed secret rites inside. A piece of the True Cross, also known as the Vera Cruz, was kept inside of this church for a time.
